A double from Matthew Reid and an early flurry from the City attackers saw Moreland survive an almighty scare from Sunshine George Cross and record their first win in two games with a solid 3-1 victory at Campbell Reserve.

Adrian Mathers refused to rotate his side that drew 0-0 with Whittlesea Rangers as Brian Summerskill returned from his injury lay-off on the bench.

The home-side came out all guns blazing with Christopher Cristaldo breaking into space on the right and saw his rocketing effort slamming the cross-bar before the resulting corner was dispatched by Reid inside the opening five minutes of the game.

Moments later, City were on the attack again and a brilliant long-ball from centre-back Daniel Jones found Apai Ukuno who nodded the ball brilliantly to Osman Kose as he slammed the ball home and made it 2-0 as the clock had barely ticked over eight minutes.

As the game continued, the away side began to ease into proceedings but Moreland continued to show their danger when going forward as Jesse Makarounas had a header cleared off the line and Kose was very unlucky not to be awarded a penalty moments later.

These missed opportunities would come back to haunt City as a fantastic free-kick from Sunshine’s midfield wiz, Adam Hodor who made it 2-1 heading into half-time as the Georgies closed the gap and began to grow in stature.

Moments into the second half, Sunshine should have levelled the game as Andrew Viola was caught out and a beautiful cross found the Georgies winger at the back post as he failed to dispatch the ball into an open net to the relief of Kieran McDowell and co.

As the end of the game drew near, substitute Stelios Konstantinidis broke into space and was taken down by the Georgies defender, Danny Barakat who after a long intervention between referee and linesman was sent-off after he was the last-man between Konstantinidis and the goal-keeper, Ryan Gauci.

Minutes later, it was all over as Reid climbed high once again to slam home his second and seal the three points for City as they go momentarily top of the table as Dandenong City take on Werribee City later today.

Moreland will travel down the highway to take on North Geelong Warriors next week while Sunshine will be on the road against Dandenong City next Friday.

Highlights later tonight on the YouTube Channel and Facebook page.
