Mini Roos Skills Aquistion Program

As part of the Moreland City FC development program, the club is now accredited to run the Skills Acquisition Program (SAP) which focus on the Skill Acquisition Phase, the key building block in the Football Federation Australia (FFA) National Football Curriculum.

The Skills Acquisition Phase is the most important phase of player development, especially around Ball Mastery. The club has been focused on Ball Mastery for a number of years, and now is extremely excited to compliment this with the SAP program. We believe this is fundamental to developing players in the key skill development areas:

• First Touch - receiving a pass.
• Striking the Ball - passing and finishing.
• Running with the Ball - changing direction and running at speed.
• 1v1 - deception and defending.

As players progress from the Discovery Phase, they will develop and refine these skills in this Pre-NPL age group. This technical part of the game in this age group is where they develop long lasting skills and is fundamental to enjoying the game and progressing to junior teenage soccer (ages 14 to 17 and JNPL). 

"This is about investing in our youth to build future Moreland City FC teams. Ball Mastery is an important phase for players as they progress into junior football in their teens. Making players comfortable with a high skill set on the ball is our focus.

Moreland has never been about player recruitment, we have had a strong history of player development and retention. Refocusing and reinvesting in the clubs DNA is seeing strong competitive teams in our Miniroos, even with some players playing above there age groups. The results are beginning to show in our Miniroos and our futures looks bright."

The FFA Building Blocks Methodology is the framework that provides practical guidelines for coaches working at all levels of youth development in order to help them in answering questions such as:

• What are the mental and physical characteristics of players in the various development stages?
• What type of practices are best suited for specific age groups and why?
• How long should a session go for and how often should I train?
• How do I plan and design my sessions?
• What are points of interest when I coach my team during matches?

 
Skill Acquisition Phase (9-12)  

• In the Skill Acquisition Phase, the coach must focus on providing a solid foundation of game-related technical skills
• If the player does not gain this skill foundation during this phase it will be very difficult to make it up later
• No amount of fitness or competitive spirit will ever compensate for deficiencies in functional game skills

Coaching Resources are available for parents that want to increase their participation level and become accredited via this program to support there child's teams development.  

The Skill Training Certificate will allow coaches to participate in short theory sessions and then apply the information from the theory session out on the pitch.​​
