In tough conditions at Campbell Reserve, Moreland City continued their winning ways with a fantastic 3-0 win over their NPL West opponents, Ballarat City.

Adrian Mathers’ side got off to a fast-start and tested Ballarat goal-keeper, Aaron Romein as he was forced into early saves before he spilled Apai Ukuno’s header which gave the home side the lead. Soon after, Dom Swinton was able to get Ballarat back into the game but his goal was ruled offside as he broke in behind Matt Reid and Daniel Jones to slot home.

Moreland’s defense was able to hold up and some crafty work from Jesse Makarounas and Corey Thomas helped set up chances for Ukuno and Cristopher Cristaldo as the wind continued to play havoc for the away side.

It was in the closing moments of the first half when Daniel Jones’ clearance was caught in the wind and the ball took a fortunate bounce for the home-team as it found its way over the head of Romein to double Moreland’s lead heading into half-time.

The second-half saw Moreland continue their dominance as a quick counter-attack resulted in Cristaldo slamming home their third and putting the result beyond doubt for the home-side.

Ballarat came close to pulling one back as a shot from Alex Baker was cleared off the line and Michael Trigger missed a one-on-one.

The linesman soon after was front and centre of discussion as a goal from Cristaldo was ruled offside to the displeasure of the home and away fans due to the delay in the game.

Moreland were able to hold on and close out the victory in their cross-promotional clash.
